I won’t lie, when I was recruited to be an instructor the only thing I ran home to tell my husband was the pay. I didn’t care that “my test run” was a THREE hour presentation on a subject I had no experience in what-so-ever in less than 2 weeks. Before instructing I spent my whole life hiding from public speaking, thanks to a junior high social studies teacher who made me feel as though I were too stupid to do so. Until 10 minutes before the test run I hadn’t even considered that this is exactly what instructing is. I spent the 2 weeks becoming an expert in the subject and making connections with folks who could help me become the best instructor I could be. I was beyond prepared. I nailed the presentation and knew before I even left the room I was in!!! In that very moment I was now in a position to help others make a living doing what they love. I came for the money, but I stayed for the people.
